FEATURES:

  • Interchangeable front covers.
  • The W508 is a 3G handset.
  • It features the Walkman music player, an FM RDS radio and a video player.
  • The accelerometer controls screen rotation and features such as Shake Me! and other gesture controls.

Sony Ericsson never really ‘did’ clamshell phones, but the W980i changed all that with its sleek and modern style, so it’s good to see them continuing the theme with the W508.  Although clearly not the same level as the W980i, this little Walkman phone still has a lot going for it, as it still uses the same Walkman software to give the same brilliant  - it’s just a shame they still haven’t put a 3.5mm jack plug socket actually in the casing.

Another feature rarely seen on Sony Ericsson mobiles are the variety of interchangeable covers, which they call ‘Style-Up’, available for the W508.  You get one free alternative in the box and others can be purchased later.  Aside from the standard metallic look, a purple, green, orange and multicolored artistic design will be out to tempt you.

The fun continues with Shake Me!, where a shake of the phone shuffles your music or shifts track while the gesture control lets you silence calls and alarms just by waving your hand over the phone!  The spec is rounded out with a 3.2 megapixel camera and a M2 storage card slot to increase the memory to a possible 16GB!

Verdict:

Though a bit sluggish in performance, but stands out for its brand(4/5)

SONY ERICSSON W715- AWESOME

Posted by admin | Posted in Mobile, Sony Ericsson | Posted on 21-01-2009

Sony Ericsson has recently announced the launch of a new phone, the Sony Ericsson W715 Walkman, which is an upgraded version of the Sony Ericsson705 announced just a couple of months ago. The Sony Ericsson W715 offers all of the features of the previous version of the phone but is upgraded to include GPS as well as an improved music service. Mobile phones today are starting to meet the many different needs of the consumer and the two improved areas of service on this phone reflect two really important areas of mobile phone development: location-based service offerings and media player functionality.

FEATURES:

The music service is the thing that is really going to sell the Sony Ericsson W715 phone to you if you’re interested in getting a new phone. The phone is designed to incorporate all of the latest and greatest Walkman phone features for people who yearn to have a full musical experience at their fingertips. Walkman music features included in the Sony Ericsson W715 phone are easy music downloads, shake-to-shuffle music selection, features that match your phone’s music to your mood and the inclusion of a music recognition application that lets you automatically know what you’re listening to.

Although the use of the Sony Ericsson W715 Walkman phone as a music player is going to be the major draw for people interested in this phone, there is also the important addition of the GPS features available on this phone. This allows for the turn-by-turn directions that we’re starting to seek on our phones as well as for advanced location-based services (such as photo tagging) at your fingertips. The incorporation of Google Maps into the phone enhances the ease of using the GPS features available on the Sony Ericsson W715.

In addition to these two advanced features (music and GPS), the Sony Ericsson W715 has a lot of the basic features that you might want from your mobile phone. These include a decent-sized display (2.4 inches at 240×320 pixels), built-in camera, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi with browsing, email and IM services. Advanced online services available with the Sony Ericsson W715 phone include photo blogging and video blogging features, the ability to receive web feeds on the phone and ease of viewing streaming video from sites like YouTube. In terms of additional entertainment, the phone’s accelerometer and screen rotation allow for fun advanced mobile phone gaming on the Sony Ericsson W715.

In terms of design, this is a professional-looking mobile phone based on the slider-phone style. It is going to be available in both black and silver so you’ll have some choice in what you’re getting when you purchase this device. The Sony Ericsson W715 phone is exclusive to Vodafone clients and will only be available in certain Vodafone markets.

Verdict:

Phone not be missed.(4.5/5)

Samsung Armani M7500-Power+Style

Posted by admin | Posted in Mobile, Samsung | Posted on 20-01-2009

Samsung first joined forces with fashion designer Armani back in late 2007 and the result was the beautiful Samsung P520 Armani, a svelte touchscreen handset with a clever interface designed specifically for it.  It was a massive success and loved by both techies and fashionistas, but it was  eventually overshadowed by the superior Samsung Tocco, which did the phone-side better but lacked the designer branding.

Fast forward to October 2008 and Samsung unveiled their newest collaboration with Armani, the M7500 Night Effect.  This time the branding was not simply Armani, but Emporio Armani, their popular range for the younger, fashion conscious person.  Since then we’ve had to wait a while until the M7500 was ready for sale, but now that time has arrived and we can take a look at the latest designer mobile phone to hit the stores in considerable detail.

Like many designer items, it’s not hard to miss the fact this is an Armani phone and it will probably not be the kind of handset chosen by shrinking violets, as the M7500 makes a loud and clear statement about who you are and how you want to be perceived.  Of course, it doesn’t do this by endless applications or high-tech goodies, but by cool looks, impressive build-quality and plenty of flash – literally!

FEATURES:

The body of the M7500 Night Effect is just 12mm thick and it weighs only 90 grams, so you should have no problems slipping it into the pocket of your Armani jeans or bag!  The screen is protected by a piece of reinforced glass and the body itself is soft-touch rubber, making the Night Effect extremely tactile. Here the Night Effect things are a little more straight forward as it’s not a touchscreen handset, but don’t think it is any less cool!  You can choose between a scrolling V pattern or standard grid style layout to match your tastes and as with most modern Samsung handsets, the M7500 is a pleasure to use.  A series of clever shortcuts on the home screen make accessing often used features a breeze too.

Encircling the M7500 is an LED light which glows either red, green or blue when you call someone or your phone rings.  Rather than being a simple strip light, on the left hands side of the handset you’ll find the Emporio Armani script and logo which also lights up!  The colour is user-selectable and also illuminates when the phone is powered up or when using the music player.  This unusual feature really makes the M7500 standout, while also informing everyone nearby you have an Armani mobile phone!

In addition to a huge phonebook, the M7500 has a variety of organisational tools including a recordable voice memo function, a to-do list, calculator, calendar and alarm, so even though the Armani is primarily about fun, don’t think they have abandoned the basics!

By combining Samsung’s technological know-how and Armani’s timeless style and attention to detail, the M7500 has become something unusual, a fashion phone which can be used everyday, with useful features that perform equally as well as any other handset not blessed with such a desirable badge!
